Hello families of Pack 100,

September is here, school is starting, and so is Cub Scouts! Like last year, scouting with Pack 100 will look a bit different this year than some other years, but I’m excited to confirm that Cub Scouts is still happening!

Since our Cub Scouts cannot yet be vaccinated, we will maintain a conservative posture towards COVID risk, and will not be gathering as a full Pack until it is safe and prudent to do so. Like last year, we’ll be relying on and supporting parent involvement and a family- and Den-centered Cub Scout program. With our excellent Den Leaders, we’ll be prioritizing activity-oriented, fun Den meetings.

Some meetings may involve games and skill building to help lay groundwork for scout-related activities that you can do as a family. We'll draw on "Scouting from Home" resources compiled by our Council and Scouts across the country (e.g. https://www.seattlebsa.org/scouting-from-home ). In consultation with Den families, some Den Leaders may coordinate socially distanced/dispersed optional outside scouting activities.

We will be holding our Pack Committee meetings on the 1st Wednesday of each month, and reserve a time for Pack meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Den meetings will be scheduled with your Den Leader, but could neatly fit on the 2nd and 4th weeks of each month. Potentially, there will be opportunities for extra (likely family-based) activities on months with 5th Thursdays.

We hope to be able to rejoin in person as soon as it is safe and prudent to do so, as informed by public health officials. However, even if we can’t get together in person, we know that we can have fun events that are socially distant, and will work to keep our scouting fun and traditions alive. We will have a pinewood derby this year, and celebrate the Blue and Gold Banquet in some form. Scouts will continue to learn Scouting skills and to work towards their rank advancement, and we’ll continue to “Do our Best” in efforts to support Scouting’s mission “to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law”.

Please reach out to your Den Leader regarding Den meeting plans. I’ll be sending a pack-wide email soon with details about our pack Dues and rechartering, and a new approach to fundraising - we’re hoping to sell car wash tickets instead of popcorn.

In the meantime, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.

Yours in Scouting,

Ben Heavner
